Unit 1: Bonjour!

After learning the commands of the classroom, here is the learning throughout the grades:

The 2nd graders are practicing saying Hello and Good bye in a formal and informal way. They are looking at their neighbor and asking them: How are you? (comment ça va? Ça va?) practicing the question with the appropriate tone.  I am fine, ok, even Fantastic!  Ça va, Ça va bien, très bien, merci, fantastique!

As a daily practice, they write their first and last name and review counting till 12 with the aim to recognize the numbers also when written in letters. Now, they recognize all members of the French family Legrand.

The 3rd graders reviewed the greetings and counting till 31. They also reviewed the colors and the shapes and were asked to associate the shapes with the colors in a sentence.

The 4th and 5th graders reviewed the greetings (giving their name, saying how they are doing and how old they are). They were working hard to learn to tell the time and learn the morning routine before school.

Et chez vous! … And at home!

Your child’s notebook is your guide to check the learning happening in every grade. Please partner with me and together we will instill the habit of taking the French notebook home to study.

Yes, I encourage all students to review their vocabulary daily, repeat the words 5-10 minutes and quiz themselves using the flash cards made during class.  Google/translate can be a big help if you have a doubt on a pronunciation.

4th- 5th grade   : Les loustics 1- 2 

We are going to review rapidly Unit 1,2,3 with emphasis on the highlighted details

       Unit 1:  Bonjour! Greetings – C’est la rentrée!  Back to School!

a-     Introduce self and others

b-    Classroom commands.

c-      What time is it?

d-    What do you see in class?

e-    Shapes and colors (masculine and feminine)

f-       What is he doing? What is she doing? (in connection to the commands)

g-     Describe this person.

h-    How many languages do you speak?

            Unit 2: Vive l’école!  “Long live the school”

a-     What is it? Naming the objects of the school

b-     What are they doing? (in connection to the commands)

c-     Write the date (days and months)

d-    What do you learn at school?

e-    What do you like most at school?

f-      What do you like to play at recess?



Unit 3: La famille Legrand “ The family members”

 

a-     Do you have brothers and sisters?

b-     Do you have cousins?

c-     How old is grand-mother Colette?

d-    When is your birthday?

e-     Where do you live?

 

We will continue Unit 4, 5 and hope to get to Unit 6

       Unit 4 : En forme?     Are you Healthy and in good shape?

a-     Name the parts of your face/ your body

b-    Can you describe yourself? (particular features, accessories)

c-     How are you feeling today? (express emotions)

d-     Do you have any pain? Tell where you feel pain

 

Unit 5: Bon appétit! Enjoy your meal!

a-     Are you prepared to have a picnic? (kitchen tools and some food)

b-    Name some fruits

c-     Name some drinks and say you’re thirsty

d-    Name some food and say you’re hungry

e-     Tell about your like and dislike in food, tell your preference and express your opinion

        Unit 6: Bientot les vacances! “It’s almost vacation time”!

a-     Name what you do when you put your clothing on

b-    Tell about the weather and the seasons

c-     Name the clothing that you wear every day

d-    How are traveling?

·      We will be counting till 100 throughout the year and have the capability to write the date independently.

Even if you don’t know a word of French, you can still support your child’s learning in many ways. Have the child review their notebook 5 to 10 minutes daily and repeat the words several times while you are listening.
Have fun with the learning and always remind your children to do their best at all times.

(grades 3-5 only). The event starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Arete gymnasium, with opening remarks from Mr. Gillingham, Ms. Pantalena, Mrs. Mason, and Mrs. Whitehead.

Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are practicing our routine, procedures and expectations of the class this week. Please review with your student the following guidelines that will help French class to run smoothly, sign and return on the designated days next week. I thank you so much for all your support and diligence in this matter. I look forward to seeing you all during curriculum nights.

  1.  Students are to pursue Truth, Beauty and Goodness in all endeavors. All their efforts are to adhere to the 9 virtues listed in the family handbook and in class.
  2.  Students are to come prepared with all necessary materials for class. Each student is required to have a spiral notebook and a sharpened pencil.
  3. Students are allowed to use the restroom and have a water break only if it is an emergency. Students have ample opportunity in the homeroom classes to use the restroom and drink water as needed during specific breaks.
  4. Students are expected to sit tall and straight during instructional time and refrain from visiting with their neighbor. During group activities, students are expected to use soft voices. They are to raise their hand to participate and ask questions during the lesson. They are expected to refrain from speaking when others have the floor.
    Homework
    Students write their lesson in their planners. They are asked to take home their notebook and review the vocabulary taught in class on a regular basis. They are expected to spend 5 to 10 minutes on French lesson daily.
     
    Absences
    If a child is absent, it is his/her responsibility to check with the Assistant Teacher to get a copy of the lesson taught. If they missed a classwork/quiz, they should be ready to complete this assignment the second time we have French. Special arrangements will be made for prolonged absences.
