(grades 3-5 only). The event starts at 6:00 p.m. in the Arete gymnasium, with opening remarks from Mr. Gillingham, Ms. Pantalena, Mrs. Mason, and Mrs. Whitehead.

The purpose of this event is to acquaint you with the school's curriculum and individual classroom procedures across all grade levels. Teachers will give parents an opportunity to ask questions. (Please note, this is a parent only event.) We look forward to seeing you there!

Even if you don't know a word of French, you can still support your child's
learning in many ways. Please encourage them to voice their contributions
often  during classroom discussions and have them review their vocabulary
daily while your are listening.

Have fun with the learning and always remind your children to do their best at
all times.

The purpose of this event is to acquaint you with the school's curriculum and individual classroom procedures across all grade levels. Teachers will give parents an opportunity to ask questions. We are practicing our routine, procedures and expectations of the class this week. Please review with your student the following guidelines that will help French class to run smoothly, sign and return on the designated days next week. I thank you so much for all your support and diligence in this matter. I look forward to seeing you all during curriculum nights.

1.  Students are to pursue Truth, Beauty and Goodness in all endeavors. All their efforts are to adhere to the 9 virtues listed in the family handbook and in class.
2.  Students are to come prepared with all necessary materials for class. Each student is required to have a spiral notebook and a sharpened pencil.
3. Students are allowed to use the restroom and have a water break only if it is an emergency. Students have ample opportunity in the homeroom classes to use the restroom and drink water as needed during specific breaks.
4. Students are expected to sit tall and straight during instructional time and refrain from visiting with their neighbor. During group activities, students are expected to use soft voices. They are to raise their hand to participate and ask questions during the lesson. They are expected to refrain from speaking when others have the floor.
   Homework
   Students write their lesson in their planners. They are asked to take home their notebook and review the vocabulary taught in class on a regular basis. They are expected to spend 5 to 10 minutes on French lesson daily.
    
   Absences
   If a child is absent, it is his/her responsibility to check with the Assistant Teacher to get a copy of the lesson taught. If they missed a classwork/quiz, they should be ready to complete this assignment the second time we have French. Special arrangements will be made for prolonged absences.

I would like to send you a warm welcome back to a new school year! I am delighted and very excited to have the opportunity to continue the French journey with your students. As we look forward for the first day of school, I would like to introduce myself to new families.

My name is Salwa Gebara. Born and raised in Lebanon, I got all my education through a French based school. I was teaching Kindergarten (10 years) French and Math while completing a BA in Child Psychology. I left Lebanon during the long civil war and went to France. I had to change careers, went to “Pigier” Techniques and graduated as Head Secretary.  I worked in Paris as a Medical secretary for almost 5 years. I got married in the USA and established my life in AZ for almost 20 years now. When my children were 18 months, they went to Tutor Time and so did I. I worked for them as a care giver for 11 years. I am now at my 5th year teaching French for Great Hearts, my 2^nd year at Archway Arete.

Here at Archway Arete, we are committed to providing French classes where the children are fully immersed in French. We will be using a French program called “Les loustics”. It is a fun, creative, action-oriented course full of visual and audio documents that reflect the lively world of children and gives them a zest for learning. It uses a gradual, spiral approach to reinforce learning from one lesson to the next. Each unit consists of five lessons offering a variety of activities and a glossary. 2^nd Grade is going to start “Les Loustics 1” and 3^rd-4^th and 5^th Grades are going to review the first part of it and continue the last 3 units with developmentally appropriate activities. When we start the Unit, I am going to request your help to encourage your students to review and repeat daily the glossary of terms stored in their notebook. You may use also Google translate as a means of interpreting them.

Oui, l’année scolaire est finie! Aujourd’hui, c’est le dernier jour de classe. Les élèves francais devront attendre encore jusqu’à la premiere semaine de juillet pour finir leur année scolaire.

C’était une studieuse et fabuleuse année  scolaire que nous avons finie avec un projet-présentation qui a demandé de la persévérance pour le compléter minutieusement, un vocabulaire précis et exact et aussi du courage pour en parler devant la classe. J’étais tout à fait réjouie de tous leurs efforts. Chargers, Bravo!

Mes chers parents, je vous remercie de votre confiance et sachez que c’etait un honneur et un privilège que d’enseigner vos enfants. Une seule demande si vous me le permettez, est de sauvegarder les cahiers de Francais car ca pourrait nous servir à la rentrée.

Je vous souhaite de très, très bonnes vacances. J’aurai beaucoup de plaisir à vous retrouver au mois d’août.

We finished this year strong. We worked very hard to complete a project about us that we shared with the class. The students stood with courage to demonstrate their understanding and learning. I was very delighted in their accomplishments and I cannot be more proud. Chargers, Bravo!

My dear Parents and Guardians,

I thank you so much for a fabulous year and all the trust that we put in me. It was my honor and privilege to be able to stand before your students and teach them. I have one final request before I let you go: please save and keep our French notebook for next year. it will help us review quickly and allow us to move faster to learn new things.

I wish you all a restful vacation (listen to French traditional songs) and enjoy every minute of it. I will be excited to see you back again in August and above all spend more French time with your children.
